RIYADH: The Saudi Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority has thwarted an attempt to smuggle almost three million Captagon pills into the Kingdom through the border crossing with the UAE at Al-Batha.
According to the authority, the 2,991,342 Captagon pills were found concealed in a shipment of LED lighting products. During customs procedures, the use of advanced security techniques and live detection methods uncovered the pills hidden inside the shipment.
Authorities reported that after the successful seizure operation, coordination with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control led to the arrest of the intended recipients of the seized items in the Kingdom. Two people were arrested as a result.
The authority reiterated its determination, in coordination with the GDNC, to continue tightening customs’ control over the Kingdom’s imports and exports and toughen its position against smuggling attempts to ensure the security and protection of Saudi society.
